Mainly the SOBs can get resourses, upgrade their cities and build troops much faster than you. HoMM was never an easy game, but HoMM 5 suffers badlly from something that already affected HoMM 3: the AI is poor, but cheats heavylly. Than we start to meet the problems (some new, some kinda intrinsic to the HoMM series): tactical combat is shallow and gets repetitive the fact that its in 3D make it looks awesome, but hurts the gameplay and adds a lots of nuisances the races are still unballanced voice acting, the cutscenes and the plot are just terrible.īut worst of all is the difficult level. I also liked some of the changes: the new races (and the fact they play much different from each other than in 3), the fact that we can choose two types of upgrades to troops, the slightly more complex Hero skill system the 'duel' mode is a lot of fun quite a good editor and decent random map generator. At first I liked the fact that it is, really, much like HoMM 3.

We have been playing it for some weeks now. But instead, I decided to try HoMM 5 and just like the 3, which I heard was good (HoMM 4 is crap, everyone agrees with that), so I got HoMM 5 Tribes of the East (standalone expansion). Recentlly, I found that my girlfriend also liked HoMM 3 and decided to play it together. But I just cant remember much about it, apart from the fact it was unable to hold my attention much. In the meantime, I tried AoW, I remember kinda liking it, but getting bored of it quite fast. Then I moved on, mainlly to other types of (turn-based) strategy games. I also played a lot of Warlords (specially 3 DLR), which in much ways I find superior to HoMM.
